Fern Martins artistic career spanning over 40 years, with  first one woman exhibition at the age of 19. Fern is represented in the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra Art Gallery of NSW, State Library of NSW  and Museum of Contemporary Art Australia. Commissions from clients across Australia, noteworthy mention 3 totem paintings for the late Jimmy Little. Fern’s work is held in private collections in Australia and overseas.
Fern has always participated with the development in Artistic Community Identity. A few highlights are with the initial developments of Women’s Art Space, Sculpture workshops, Artists for Aboriginal Lands Rights and the early Treaty movement. Founding member for the first Indigenous Urban Artists Cooperative, Boomalli. Fern’s commitment to Community Art Action is still flourishing at Swansea on Lake Macquarie. Through her teaching, Community art and Indigenous reconciliation projects.  Recently, Fern has ventured into Indigenous children’s book illustrations and is the recipient of the Magabala Scholarship for 2013 and 2015.
She is passionate about her faith and Aboriginal self-determination. Ngnarabul and Waka Waka countries, Northern NSW southern QLD are Fern’s Aboriginal family places.
